RELIANT FIRE APPARATUS INC. (PIERCE)

FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, it has been determined that a Change Order is necessary and proper on the
above Contract.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that Change Order No. 1 in the amount of$142,608 on contract with Reliant Fire Apparatus Inc.
(Pierce) of Washington County, Wisconsin, to refurbish Ladder Truck #3 to be approved and
adopted as attached hereto and made a part hereof by this reference.

The contract is modified as follows upon execution of this Change Order. The changes included in this
change order are made in order to carry out the original intent of the contract. The changes included in
this change order are to be accomplished in accordance with the terms, stipulations, and conditions of

DESCRIPTION COST
Additional repairs need after inspection.
• Remove&replace the driver side pumphouse pullout step& mounting brackets
matching the original design and material (Item 1 -$1,197)
• Remove cab grille, unpin cab, undo air&electrical lines to raise cab above pivot,
press old bushing &install new bushing (Item 3-$1,328)
• Frame rails, rail replacement&torque box bottom plate replacement
(Item 46-$133,630)
Replace all discharge drain valves at driver's&passenger's side pump panels.
Total of eleven(11). Replace all drain lines. (Item 10-$1,019)
• Replace the aerial discharge valve indicator panel & handwheel(Item 11 -$349)
• Remove pipe from truck. Clean, metal finish corrosion &paint pipe. Reinstall pip
with new groove coupling & test for proper operation(Item 14-$387) $142,608.00
• Replace directional/high beam/4-way switch inside steering column
(Item 16-$280)
• Replace ladder wear pads on all sections of the ladder. Fly, upper mid, lower mid
&base sections (Item 30-$2,836)
• Install rung covers on 51'&611i of lower mid-section (Item 31 -$174)
• Clean hydraulic oil from pump. Run aerial pump. Identify leak&repair.

The following is a list of additional defects identified during our incoming inspections and
testing of the Ames Fire Department. Pierce aerial unit#13225TR,F7528
The list includes items that are not already included in the original scope of work.
I have provided an estimate for each item listed below. Please review the list and identify which
items, if any,you would like us to repair by marking a YES in the yes/no box and send back to
me with your written approval.
* The aerial items will need to be repaired to achieve a P party UL aerial certification.

Remove body
• Remove the rear wall assembly substructure and
reinstall with new hardware.
• Remove the rear bumper step support framework
• Unbolt the torque box and remove it from the
chassis frame rails.
• Remove all hydraulic hoses and controls.
• Unbolt the torque box and remove it from the
chassis frame rails.
Torque Box
• Remove outrigger beams and all outrigger
cylinders,needle scale the interior of the
outrigger housings.
• Sandblast all outrigger horizontal tubes,vertical
tubes,and planting feet. The outrigger tubes and
feet will be repainted black.
• Replace the bottom plate on the torque box with
new.
• After all torque box components and torque box
is sandblasted to raw metal apply rust inhibitor,
prime and finish paint black the complete
interior and exterior of the torque box/main
frame assembly.
• The outrigger horizontal and vertical tubes will
be painted black.
• Check plumbing for leaks.
Frame rail corrosion
• Needle corrosion on the accessible areas of the
frame rails,cross members,water tank cradle,
suspension,axles, and substructures.
• Repaint the repaired areas of the frame, the
i crossmembers, tank cradle, substructures,
suspension. and axle. Same color as original.

FRAME RAIL REPLACEMENT and TOROUE BOX
CORROSION REPAIR
• Remove the rear wall assembly substructure and
reinstall with new hardware.
• Remove the rear bumper step support framework
• Unbolt the torque box and remove it from the
chassis frame rails.
• Remove all hydraulic hoses and controls.
• The front axle,suspension,steering gear
assembly and wheels will be removed.
• Reinstall front axle with new mounting
hardware.
• Remove the rear axle assembly to include
suspension and wheels,reinstalled with new
mounting hardware.
• Remove the rear axle stops and replace with
new.
• Remove the fuel tank.
• Remove all body mounting substructures and
remount with new hardware
• The cab, engine and transmission will be
removed and reinstalled on the new frame rails
with new mounting hardware.
• The frame rails and frame liners will be removed
and replaced with new frame rails and liners that
are E-Coated for additional corrosion protection.
The frame rails will be constructed of 120,000
psi yield strength heat-treated.38"thick steel,
with 3.50" wide flanges
• Reinstall all removed assemblies; front bumper
extension,cab lift mounting brackets,
crossmembers and body mounting supports;
torque bolts to spec.

• New chassis air tanks and mounting brackets
will be provided.
• Reinstall drive shaft assemblies.
• Remove outrigger beams and all outrigger
cylinders
• Remove all hydraulic hoses and controls.
• Remove all electrical wiring from the torque box
assembly.
TORQUE BOX
• Remove bottom plate of torque box due to
corrosion,weld in new steel plate, treat and
repaint.
Strip all electrical and hydraulic components
from torque box and sandblast complete torque
box to include inside and outriggers.After
completion all components will be treated with a
rust inhibitor,primed and repainted black.
• The water tank cradle will be removed and
replaced with a new a coated tank cradle and
painted black.
• Remove all crossmembers and replace with new
e coated crossmembers
• Remove the rear tailboard support, tow bar
assembly,and rear wall,replace with new to
include rubber mounting biscuits and new tow
bar assembly.
• Remove all body mounting substructures and
replace with new a coated front and rear body
mounting substructures,mounting platforms,
biscuits,cage nuts and hardware.
• New chassis air tanks, lines and mounting
brackets will be provided.
Replace the following brake system components
and air tank pressure protection valves with new.
Remove and replace all air valve mounting
brackets.

• Replace the driver and passenger side running
board supports with new E-Coated supports.
• The rear axle assemblies to include suspension
components are to be needled to remove
corrosion and re painted black.
• The front TAK-4 will be cleaned to remove
corrosion and paint will be reapplied.
• The front bumper sub structure will be
sandblasted to remove corrosion and repainted to
match existing
• Replace fuel lines with new
• Replace Battery Boxes with new a coated
• Replace power steering hoses with new
• Replace transmission lines with new
Reassembly
• Remount body panels,cross divider, rear wall
assembly,install electrical harnesses and mount
all miscellaneous body components.
Remount hydraulic oil reservoir and fill with new hydraulic fluid
rated for the correct temperature zone.
5. The following leaks were identified during incoming. $ 6,054.00
• Engine oil cooler mounted to engine(behind
turbo)is leaking oil.
• Engine oil pan drain plug is leaking oil. No
• Transmission rear output shaft seal is leaking.
• Generator PTO is leaking oil from gasket.
• Remote oil level gauge has a hose leaking oil.

6. Rubber bushings in rear axle torque rods are worn and $971.00

10. All discharge drains valves are hard to operate. Drain $ 1,019.00
