HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Approving Closure of Metered Parking and Suspsension of Parking Enforcement for Ames Grand Prix Main Street Criterium RESOLUTION NO. 22-402 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING AND SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR AMES GRAND PRIX MAIN STREET CRITERIUM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Ames Velo organization has proposed hosting its fifth Ames Grand Prix bicycle races on Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, August 28; and, WHEREAS,the event consists of timed races of 10 to 50 riders per race along a short circuit,and it is anticipated that riders will reach speeds of up to 35 miles-per-hour on the course; and, WHEREAS, an estimated 300 individuals are anticipated to attend the two days of racing; and, WHEREAS, on Saturday, August 27, the races will take place Downtown from 3:45 p.m. until about 11:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,to facilitate this event,organizers have requested the following street closures from 3:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.: closure of Main Street between Clark Avenue and Douglas Avenue; Douglas Avenue between Main Street to Sixth Street; Sixth Street between Douglas Avenue and Burnett Avenue; Burnett Avenue between Sixth and Fifth Street; Fifth Street between Burnett Avenue and Clark Avenue; and, Clark Avenue between Fifth and Main Street: and, WHEREAS,the event organizers have further requested that 187 metered parking spaces along the race route be closed and parking enforcement be suspended from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and, NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the closure of 187 metered parking spaces on the aforementioned streets on Saturday, August 27, 2022, for the Ames Grand Prix Main Street Criterium is hereby approved, and the suspension of parking enforcement is hereby further approved.
