HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Confirming Appointment of Members to the Ames Resident Police Advisory Committee RESOLUTION NO. 22-362 RESOLUTION CONFIRMING APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO THE AMES RESIDENT POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, in accordance with the adopted recommendations from the"Ames Policing - A Path Forward"report,the City Council established the Ames Resident Police Advisory Committee (ARPAC) in Section 2.50 of the Municipal Code; and, WHEREAS,as with City Boards and Commissions,the Mayor is responsible for appointing residents to the committee, subject to confirmation by the City Council; and, WHEREAS, the ordinance contains two requirements that are unique to this committee: 1. When presenting a prospective Committee member for City Council approval, the Mayor shall include a statement describing the rationale for selecting the appointee. 2. The members of the Committee shall be representative of the diversity of the community, insofar as practicable. WHEREAS, 63 applications were received, and using the requirements outlined in the ordinance the Mayor selected eight individuals to be interviewed; and, WHEREAS, the list of recommended appointees meets the intent of the ordinance's "diversity of the community"requirements: 1)Age range;2)Race/ethnicity;3)Gender balance;and 4) LGBT community representation; and, WHEREAS,the Ordinance sets forth that individuals who have served six consecutive years may not be reappointed and according to the Ordinance, terms will conclude March 31 with new terms beginning April 1, in alignment with other boards and commissions; and, WHEREAS,with this being the inaugural committee, it was proposed to start the terms on July 1, and have staggered terms to establish a workable reappointment schedule; and, WHEREAS, the following individuals were recommended for appointment: 1. Roberto Dubiel - One year term through March 31, 2023 2. Emily Rebollozo - One year term through March 31, 2023 3. Virginia Speight- Two year term through March 31, 2024 4. Chunhui Xiang - Two year term through March 31, 2024 5. William Arce - Two year term through March 31, 2024 6. Edna Clinton- Three year term through March 31, 2025 7. Tim Rasmussen - Three year term through March 31, 2025 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the above referenced individuals recommended for appointment to the Ames Resident Police Advisory Committee effective July 1, 2022, are hereby approved.
