HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Approving the Request from the Ames NAACP got $1,000 Financial Commitment to the 2022 Ames Juneteenth Event RESOLUTION NO. 22-331 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE REQUEST FROM THE AMES NAACP FOR$1,000 FINANCIAL COMMITMENT TO THE 2022 AMES JUNETEENTH EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,the City received a request from Vern Hawkins,President of the Ames Branch of the NAACP, requesting a$1,000 contribution for the 2022 Juneteenth event scheduled for July 18, 2022, at the Bandshell; and, WHEREAS,normally this request would first appear in the Council's non-agenda package and a decision would be made during Council Comments at the subsequent Council meeting whether or not to consider this request at a future meeting; however,because the event will be held prior to the next Council meeting on June 28, 2022, it was decided to place this request on the current Agenda; and, WHEREAS,the rationale for making such a decision was guided by the City Council's stated value for a diverse,equitable,and inclusive community and a donation to the Juneteenth event would reinforce this commitment; and, WHEREAS, the $1,000 would be paid out of the Council's Contingency Account. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request from the Ames NAACP for $1,000 financial commitment to the 2022 Juneteenth Event is hereby approved.
