To the Ames Zoning Board of Adjustment:
The families of Joni King's daycare are writing in support for the special use permit for a child care
facility at 2003 Hunziker Drive. Listed below are the reasons we support this permit:
• All the families at Joni's daycare live and work in Ames. We proudly support many local
businesses, including Joni's daycare.
• Daycare is very difficult to find in Ames. Many young families face the daunting task of finding a
quality daycare provider to take their children;in particular,there is a shortage of infant
openings in Ames. Having one less daycare means six families would need to find new daycare,
not to mention all the future families who would not be able to send their children to Joni's
daycare. In order for Ames to continue to draw in young professionals for employment,quality
daycare must be available. Otherwise,those families will reside in towns outside of Ames so
that they can find quality daycare close to their home.
• Joni's house is a second home to each child who attends her daycare.Joni's daycare is not just
a place to send kids while their parents are at work. It is a place where children go to learn,
develop friendships,and have fun.Joni cares for each child as if he/she is her own. She knows
their needs, habits, likes,and dislikes.She is the most patient and kind provider and goes above
and beyond each day.When we leave our children at her house each morning,we know they
are safe and happy. We could not ask for a better provider for our children.
In summary,we believe the special use permit for a child care facility should be approved. Please
