RESOLUTION APPROVING THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
(IDOT)AGREEMENT FOR TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES PROGRAM (TAP)
FUNDING FOR THE 2021/22 SHARED USE PATH SYSTEM
EXPANSION (IOWAY CREEK)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) provides for construction of
shared use paths on street rights-of-way, adjacent to streets, and through greenbelts; and,
WHEREAS,the Long-Range Transportation Plan(LRTP)identifies those paths that separate
bicycle traffic from higher-speed automobile traffic; and,
WHEREAS, the 2021/22 Shared Use Path System Expansion - Ioway Creek project will
construct a shared use path along Ioway Creek from South 5`'Street to 0.5 miles east of South Duff
Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, this project is shown in the 2021/22 Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) with
funding in the amount of$521,800 from Local Option Sales Tax, and $159,000 from MPO/STP
funds; however, the FFY 2022/22 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) has been amended to
$560,000 in MPO/STP funds,bringing the total project budget for administration,engineering,and
construction to $1,081,800; and,
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the project will have a September 2022 IDOT letting with
construction in 2023.
