RESOLUTION APPROVING THE USE OF $739,579 OF THE COUNCIL PRIORITIES
FUND TO COVER THE SHORTFALL OF THE AMES DOWNTOWN PLAZA
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, at the April 26, 2022, City Council accepted the report of bids for the
Downtown Plaza Project and directed staff to bring back recommendations to reduce the cost of the
project and to identify options for potential funding of the shortfall; and,
WHEREAS,the Engineer's Estimate was$3,938,591 total for the Base Bid components and
allowances for artwork and FFE,and the total available funding for the entire project is$4,555,121;
and,
WHEREAS, incorporating the low Base Bid into the project resulted in an overall project
funding shortfall of$959,479; and,
WHEREAS,staff made several recommended changes resulting in a reduction of the overall
project expenses by $219,900, and staff recommended that Council cover the shortfall from the
Council Priorities Fund in the amount of$739,579.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the use of$739,579 of the Council Priorities Fund to cover the shortfall amount for the Ames
Downtown Plaza is hereby approved.
