HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Authorizing the Mayor to Sign a Letter of Support for the Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant (MPDG) for the S. 16th Street Multimodal Capital Project RESOLUTION NO. 22-220 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE MULTIMODAL PROJECT DISCRETIONARY GRANT (MPDG) FOR THE S. 16TH STREET MULTIMODAL CAPITAL PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation has established a Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant Opportunity (MPDG) for the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects grant program(INFRA)and Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program(Rural) for applications; and, WHEREAS, the City of Ames has prepared an application for INFRA and Rural Grant funding for the S. 16t1i Street Multimodal Capital Project for improvements, including inclusive planning, outreach, and design, road reconstruction, multi-modal and accessibility enhancement, traffic signal and traffic adaptative systems, and, WHEREAS, the City Council had drafted community values and goals that include Communication and Engagement with the Public;Diverse,Equitable,and Inclusive Community;and Environmental Sustainability and have moved forth with key strategies to support these values;and, WHEREAS,the City of Ames anticipates funding for the S. 16t1i Street Multimodal Capital Project will advance City and Department of Transportation goals of inclusive and equitable transportation investment,j ob growth,improved reliability and safety along an arterial transportation corridor,reduce emissions throughout the community and historically disadvantaged areas adjacent to the corridor, and; WHEREAS,the S. 16`h Street Multimodal Capital Project will align with other City Projects/ Plans and Community organizations to improve the connectivity and mobility for all residents and reduce emissions and carbon footprint through the community; and WHEREAS,it is anticipated that the project will not begin until the Grant funds are awarded and agreements signed for the program; and, WHEREAS,it is anticipated that the City of Ames Grant Application will include investment in a historically disadvantaged area defined by the most recent Census Tract in a rural community as defined by the MPDG guidelines; and, WHEREAS, the City of Ames is committed to maintaining and operating all assets constructed as part of the S. 16t1i Street Multimodal Capital Project in a state of good repair for the life of the asset as well as required maintenance that will prolong the life of the asset; and, WHEREAS, the City of Ames City Council can show enthusiasm and readiness for the S. 16' Street Multimodal Capital project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Mayor is authorized to submit the letter of support for the S. 16`'Street Multimodal Capital Project for the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects Grant Program (INFRA) and Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program (Rural) Program.
