Search Area Obstruction Evaluation Report
Date: April 21 , 2015
Search Area Name: IA 15759-B Ames 3
Search Area Center Latitude: 420 02' 46.79"
Search Area Center Longitude: 0930 37' 09.84"
Surface Elevation: 889' to 979' AMSL (Above Mean Sea Level)
Structure Height: 95' AGL (Above Ground Level)
Total Height: 984' to 1 ,074' AMSL
This study is conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR)
Part 77 and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules Part 17.
This report is intended for the exclusive use of SBA Network Services, Inc and
their clients in making appropriate regulatory filings and may not be reproduced
in any form or manner.
This study is for a 1 NM radius search area centered on the above coordinates.
i
IMPACT
The search area center is located 17,522' or 2.88 NM Northeast from the
approach end of runway 19. The search area center is located 19.832' or 3.26
NM Northeast from the airport reference point (ARP) of the Ames Municipal
Airport a public use VFR airport. The proposed structure would not affect VFR
flight operations at this airport.
Private use airports or heliports do not meet FAR PART 77 criteria and the FAA
would not consider them in its study of the proposed structure. In the interest of
flight safety SBA considers private use airports in every study. SBA found no
evidence of private use airports, which affect this search area.
FAA Notice (FAR PART 77.9 (a)): The proposed 95' AGL structure would not
exceed this 200' AGL surface
FAR PART 77.9 (b) (1) (2) (3): The proposed 95' AGL structure could,
depending on the ground elevation of the search area site selected, exceed
the imaginary 100:1 slope surface and fail the FCC slope test for Ames Municipal
Airport. FAA Notice of Proposed Construction may be required.
FAR PART 77.9: The proposed 95' AGL structure could, depending on the
ground elevation of the search area site selected, be greater than 100' in
height than that of the runway end elevation of 937' AMSL, is located within 1 NM
either side of the extended runway centerline, and is within 16 NM of the end of
the runway 19 for the Ames Municipal Airport. FAA notice of proposed
construction may be required.
Note: Based on a ground elevation of 961' AMSL the maximum no notice
height at the search area center is 75' AGL/1,037' AMSL.
Obstructions Standards of FAR PART 77.17, FAR PART 77.19 and FAR
PART 77.21 (Ref: FAR PART 77.17 (a) (1), (2), (3), and FAR PART 77.21): The
proposed 95' AGL structure would not exceed obstruction standards for the
Ames Municipal Airport.
• The search area is located below airspace protected for IFR flight
operations and the conical 20:1 imaginary slope surface; however, the
proposed 95' AGL structure would not exceed any of these surfaces.
AM Broadcast Station Impact: SBA found no evidence of AM Broadcast
Stations that would impact the search area. AM station Proof-of-Performance is
not required.
Date: 4/21/15
Name: IA 15759-B Ames 3 BA
Conclusion/Recommendations:
Select a site within the search area and propose a 95' AGL structure. FAA notice
of proposed construction may be required, depending on the ground
elevation of the search area site selected.. However, if filed, the FAA would
likely approve such a proposal without an extended study.
Note: Based on a ground elevation of 961' AMSL the maximum no notice
height at the search area center is 75' AGL/1,037' AMSL.
Reference the above recommendation:
• FAA notice may be required. Based on a ground elevation of 961' AMSL
the maximum no notice height at the search area center is 75'
AGL/1,037' AMSL.
• Marking and Lighting is not required. Maximum no marking and lighting
height is 200' AGL at the search area center.
• Extended study is not required. Maximum no extended study height is
200' AGL based on a ground elevation or 962' AMSL.
• Proposed structure would not be considered a hazard to IFR flight
operations. Maximum no hazard height at the search area center is 208'
AGL/1,170' AMSL based on a ground elevation of 962' AMSL.
• The proposed structure would be located within AM Broadcast Station
interference radius. AM station Proof-of-Performance is required.
• Proposed structure would not impact flight operations at private use
airports or heliports.
