RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A LETTER OF SUPPORT
FOR THE APPLICATION REBUILDING AMERICA INFRASTRUCTURE WITH
SUSTAINABILITY AND EQUITY (RAISE) GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE LINCOLN
WAY CONNECTIVITY CORRIDOR: NORTH DAKOTA TO SOUTH SKUNK RIVER
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation has established the Rebuilding America
Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity(RAISE) Grant Program and opened the 2022 Grant
Program for applications; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Ames has prepared an application for RAISE funding for the Lincoln
Way Connectivity Corridor Proj ect for improvements including inclusive planning,outreach,design,
road reconstruction, multi-modal and accessibility enhancements, Traffic Signal and Traffic
Adaptative Systems, and integrated Storm Water Management; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has drafted community values and goals that include
Communication and Engagement with the public; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and
Environmental Sustainability and have moved forth with key strategies to support these values;and,
WHEREAS,the City of Ames anticipates funding the Lincoln Way Connectivity Corridor,
built over four phases, will advance City and Department of Transportation goals of inclusive and
equitable transportation investment,j ob growth,improved reliability and safety along a main arterial
transportation corridor,reduce emissions throughout the community and historically disadvantaged
areas adjacent to the corridor; and,
WHEREAS,the Lincoln Way Connectivity Corridor will align with other City projects/plans
and community organizations to improve the connectivity and mobility for all residents and reduce
emissions and carbon footprints through the community; and,
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the project will not begin until the RAISE funds are
awarded and agreements have been signed for the Program; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Ames anticipates that the grant application will include investment
in an historically disadvantaged area defined by the most recent Census Tract in a rural community
as defined by the RAISE guidelines; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Ames City Council can show enthusiasm and readiness for the
Lincoln Way Connectivity Corridor project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Mayor is authorized to submit a letter of support for the Lincoln Way Connectivity Corridor
RAISE Grant application.
