RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION TO ENTER INTO
AGREEMENTS WITH ARTISTS FOR THE 2022/23
AMES ANNUAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION SELECTIONS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition(AAOSE),the longest running
program for the Public Arts Commission(PAC), will celebrate its 26t'annual Downtown Exhibition
in 2022; and,
WHEREAS, through this program, artists submit sculptural entries to be displayed in
Downtown Ames from May 2022 through April 2023; and,
WHEREAS,at the conclusion of the display,sculptures are available for purchase by private
individuals or by PAC through the Neighborhood Art Program; and,
WHEREAS, this year, 36 AAOSE entries were received from 17 artists; and,
WHEREAS, entries were evaluated by a jury of Ames residents who then made their
recommendations to PAC; and,
WHEREAS, the jurors selected eight sculptures to be displayed and also identified three
alternates in case the selected sculpture(s)would become unavailable; and,
WHEREAS, PAC approved the recommendations and alternates at a Special Meeting on
March 15, 2022; and,
WHEREAS, specific art sculptures selected for display are as follows:
1. Parent and Child by Albert Rhea
2. Cube Farmer by Craig Snyder
3. Symmetry by Tim Adams
4. Blue Wings by Hilde DeBruyne
5. Heartbeat of the Heartland by Zach Bowman
6. Arc C by Sung-Hee Min
7. Twist by John Kamrath
8. Propensity by Ben Pierce
WHEREAS, installation of the exhibit will take place in April after consultation with
businesses near the proposed sites and any further risk analysis by City staff; and,
WHEREAS,artists will be paid a$2,000 honorarium for each selected sculpture,and a Best-
in-Show award of$1,000 will be made to a winner determined by the public; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the authorization of the Public Art Commission(PAC)to enter into agreements with artists for
the 2022/23 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition selections is hereby granted.
ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of March, 2022.
