RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF PARKING METER FEES, FEES FOR
ELECTRICITY USAGE,AND FEE FOR BLANKET VENDING LICENSE FOR
AMES MAIN STREET FARMERS' MARKET
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Chamber of Commerce is planning to host the annual Ames Main Street
Farmers' Market this summer, which will take place in the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street and on
Burnett Avenue from Main Street to the U.S. Bank drive-through; and,
WHEREAS,the Market will operate on Saturdays from May 7 through October 15 from 8:00 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,to facilitate the Market,organizers have requested that parking meter fees be waived
for the 75 metered parking spaces in the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street and along a portion of Burnett
Avenue for 4.5 metered hours each day that the Market operates; and,
WHEREAS,the use of electricity in Tom Evans Plaza,along Main Street,and on Burnett Avenue
has also been requested, along with a waiver of the fee; and,
WHEREAS,organizers are also requesting a blanket Vending License fee for vending be waived
for the entire Central Business District from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day of the Market, which will
allow Downtown businesses (that file an insurance certificate with the City)to display items for sale on
the sidewalks; and,
WHEREAS, the Main Street Farmers' Market has successfully attracted visitors to Ames Main
Street for the last several years,and it has become a signature event in Ames,enhancing the local economy
and providing a family-friendly activity that showcases the Ames community.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
request to waive parking meter fees and enforcement, usage and waiver of electrical fees, and waiver of
fee for blanket Vending License for the Main Street Farmers' Market on Saturdays from May 7, 2022,
through October 15, 2022, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of February, 2022.
