RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF FEE FOR BLANKET VENDING LICENSE
FOR ISU RESEARCH PARK CIRCUIT RACE FOR AMES GRAND PRIX
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Velo organization has proposed hosting its fourth Ames Grand Prix
bicycle races on Saturday, September 18, and Sunday, September 19; and,
WHEREAS,the event consists of timed races of 10 to 50 riders per race along a short circuit,
and it is anticipated that riders will reach speeds of up to 35 miles-per-hour on the course; and,
WHEREAS,an estimated 300 individuals are anticipated to attend the two days of racing;and,
WHEREAS, on Sunday, September 19, the races will take place from 8:00 a.m. until about
5:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested the following street closures
from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Collaboration Place; Plaza Loop; University Boulevard from
Collaboration Place to Airport Road(northbound lane only;southbound lane to remain open to traffic);
Airport Road from University Boulevard to South Riverside Drive(one eastbound lane only;the road
will remain open to both east and westbound traffic); and South Riverside Drive (southbound lane
only; northbound lane to remain open to traffic); and,
WHEREAS, organizers have requested a Blanket Vending License for the closed area and
waiver of the $50 fee; and,
WHEREAS, a letter of support from the ISU Research Park has been obtained for this event.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
waiver of the Blanket Vending License fee of$50 for the Ames Grand Prix ISU Research Park Circuit
Race on Sunday, September 19, 2021, is hereby approved.
