RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING AND
SUSPENSION OF PARKING ENFORCEMENT FOR AMES GRAND PRIX
MAIN STREET CRITERIUM
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Velo organization has proposed hosting its fourth Ames Grand Prix bicycle
races on Saturday, September 18, and Sunday, September 19; and,
WHEREAS,the event consists of timed races of 10 to 50 riders per race along a short circuit,and
it is anticipated that riders will reach speeds of up to 35 miles-per-hour on the course; and,
WHEREAS, an estimated 300 individuals are anticipated to attend the two days of racing; and,
WHEREAS,on Saturday,September 18,the races will take place Downtown from 3:45 p.m.until
about 11:00 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,to facilitate this event,organizers have requested the following street closures from
3:45 p.m.to 11:00 p.m.: closure of Main Street from Clark Avenue to Douglas Avenue;Douglas Avenue
from Main Street to 6th Street; Oh Street from Douglas Avenue to Burnett Avenue;Burnett Avenue from
6th Street to Main Street; 5th Street from Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue, Kellogg Avenue from Main
Street to 6th Street, and Clark Avenue from 5th Street to Main Street; and,
WHEREAS, the event organizers have further requested that 187 metered parking spaces along
the race route be closed and parking enforcement be suspended from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
closure of 187 metered parking spaces on the aforementioned streets on Saturday, September 18, 2021,
for the Ames Grand Prix Main Street Criterium is hereby approved, and the suspension of parking
enforcement is hereby further approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of August, 2021.
