Subject: letter for historical district
Due to our disabilities, we would like you all to consider some special adaptions to make our living areas as
comfortable and accessible for each of us. Because we are both quadriplegic there are limitations to our arm
and hand functions along with no upper body balance. We would like to have windows that can be more easily
operated. Leaning over and lifting heavy objects is nearly impossible, so this can make a regular window very
difficult and not operational to us.
We are also concerned about keeping the house looking nice in the future. With longer lasting materials, this
will help us from having leaks and other such things that could make the house in need of repairs more
frequently.
We wanted to live in this area because of close proximity to the hospital and clinic. We will allow the physical
therapy department to have people get in touch with us to show them things that can be done to make life
more comfortable for people who have mobility issues. We also like the closeness to downtown for things that
we need and my employment. Both of us grew up in Ames and like the community. I have talked with people
within that area and they told us a little about the organization and we think it could benefit us all.
Thank you for your time
