HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Authorizing the Public Art Commission to Acquire Sculptures for the 2021 Neighborhodd Sculpture Program RESOLUTION NO. 21-130 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION TO ACQUIRE SCULPTURES FOR THE 2021 NEIGHBORHOOD SCULPTURE PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission (PAC) hosts an Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition(AAOSE); and, WHEREAS, each year, sculptures exhibited through AAOSE are available for purchase by private individuals;additionally,PAC typically acquires several sculptures each year for inclusion into the City's art collection through the Neighborhood Sculpture Program; and, WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Sculpture Program involves accepting applications from residents to have an AAOSE sculpture placed on City property for residents to enjoy; and, WHEREAS,on March 3,2021,PAC approved a recommendation to pursue accession ofthree sculptures for the Neighborhood Sculpture Program; and, WHEREAS,the total acquisition cost of the three pieces is $13,500 and it is within the PAC budget assigned to this program; and, WHEREAS, the art pieces to be acquired and the proposed locations are as follows: 1. Play Things by artist Jacob McGinn to be placed at Franklin Park 2. Woman with Flowers by artist James Bearden to be placed at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Ross Road(north of Ross Road and west of Michigan Avenue) 3. The Bronsons by artist Steve Reddell to be placed at the Arizona Circle cul-de-sac NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the authorization for the Public Art Commission to acquire sculptures for the 2021 Neighborhood Sculpture Program is hereby approved.
