RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION TO ENTER INTO
AGREEMENTS WITH ARTISTS FOR THE 2021/22
AMES ANNUAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION SELECTIONS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition(AAOSE),the longest running
program for the Public Arts Commission(PAC), will celebrate its 25'annual Downtown exhibition
in 2021; and,
WHEREAS, through this program, artists submit sculptural entries to be displayed in
Downtown Ames from Mary 2021 through April 2022; and,
WHEREAS,as the conclusion of the display,sculptures are available for purchase by private
individuals or by PAC through the Neighborhood Art Program; and,
WHEREAS, this year, 41 AAOSE entries were received from 18 artists; and,
WHEREAS, entries were evaluated by a jury of Ames residents, who reviewed entry
materials, met through video conferencing to discuss the entries, and then made their
recommendations to PAC; and,
WHEREAS, the jurors selected 14 sculptures to be displayed and also identified alternates
in case selected sculpture(s) would become unavailable; and,
WHEREAS,PAC approved the recommendations and alternates at its meeting on March 3,
2021; and,
WHEREAS, specific art sculptures selected for display are as follows:
1. Splash by Albert Rhea
2. Moon Rising by Ben Pierce
3. Oxbow by Tim Adams
4. Passage by James Bearden
5. Who Rescued Who by Gail Chavenelle
6. Flight by Hilde DeBruyne
7. Peaceful Journey by Ron Dinsdale
8. Crossroads by Jon Kamrath
9. Vertical Memory by Sunghee Min
10. Triangle Play by Sunghee Min
11. Riding High by Steve Reddell
12. This is Living!? By Damian Radice
13. Slow Dancing by Judd Nelson
14. Lost in Space by Judd Nelson
WHEREAS, installation of the exhibit will take place in May after consultation with
businesses near the proposed sites and any further risk analysis by City staff, and,
WHEREAS,artists will be paid a$1,000 honorarium for each selected sculpture,and a Best-
in-Show award of$500 will be made to a winner determined by the public; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the authorization of the Public Art Commission(PAC)to enter into agreements with artists for
the 2021/22 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Selections is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of March, 2021.
