HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Approving the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Federal-Aid Swap Funding Agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for the Cherry Avenue Extension RESOLUTION NO. 21-039 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BLOCK GRANT (STBG) FEDERAL-AID SWAP FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE CHERRY AVENUE EXTENSION FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the City ofAmes has been awarded a grant in the amount of$1,890,000 through the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) for the Cherry Avenue Extension; and, WHEREAS, the Agreement is through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program Federal-Aid Swap to help fund transportation improvement projects on streets and highways in Iowa; and, WHEREAS,the Long-Range Transportation Plan identifies the extension of Cherry Avenue south of East Lincoln Way as an important transportation connection for the community; and, WHEREAS, by extending Cherry Avenue south and connecting both SE 3' Street and SE 5`' Street, traffic congestion will be further relieved from the South Duff Avenue corridor; and, WHEREAS,this project will also include replacing the existing 4"water main along Cherry Avenue with a new larger system to loop this part of the community to improve reliability and fire protection; and, WHEREAS, the project will have a bid letting through the Iowa DOT and a local match of 20 percent of the eligible costs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Surface Transportation Block Grant(STBG) Federal-Aid Swap Funding Agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for the Cherry Avenue Extension in the amount of $1,890,000 is hereby approved.
