Thank you for explaining that this is only a side business. However, it still must comply with the Municipal Code regardless of the volume of business. The City of Ames encourages the growth of home businesses;however,they must be conducted in manner that does not adversely affect the use or enjoyment of other nearby residences. As a record of our conversation I am sending this letter to document that you agreed to submit a Special Home Occupation Permit Application by December 8, 2011. You also agreed to remove all of your temporaty yard s_�.Please note that even if the Home Occupation Permit is approved by the Zoning Board of Adjustment,the only sign allowed by the Municipal Code is a one square foot wall sign, affixed to the home. Please mark January 11, 2012, on your calendar as the meeting date for the Zoning Board ofAdjustment. This meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 515 Clark Avenue. Enclosed are the application form and the related sections from the Municipal Code. There is a$150.00 fee payable to the City of Ames. Please submit the application to the Department of Planning and Housing.As part of the public notice requirements,a sign will then be placed on the property and all property owners within 200 feet will be invited to the hearing to participate. If you have any questions or need any assistance in completing the application,please do not hesitate to call our office and ask to speak to any one of the planners.Alternatively, you could request an appointment to meet in person.
