RESOLUTION APPROVING THE 2020 UPDATE TO THE
AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, the Airport Master Plan is the governing policy document for an airport that
shows current conditions, as well as anticipated future growth; and,
WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA)recommends the Plan be updated
every five to ten years though it can be updated on an "as needed" basis, such as when there is
completion of significant improvements outlined in the current Plan or when there has been a
significant change in the demographics and growth in the community; and,
WHEREAS, although the FAA is a funding partner in this update of the entire Plan, it only
officially approves two pieces of the Plan; 1) Aviation Forecast and 2) the Airport Layout Plan
(ALP) sheet; and,
WHEREAS,the majority of the Master Plan documents are driven by input from the public
and guidance from a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) made up of community stakeholders
with a vested interest in the Ames Airport; and,
WHEREAS,on September 22,2020,the City Council approved the draft Airport Master Plan
and the Plan was made available for a 30-day comment period; and,
WHEREAS, once the Plan is adopted, staff will submit the Final Plan to the FAA for its
approval of the Aviation Forecast and ALP.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that 2020 updated to the Airport Master Plan is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 27th day of October, 2020.
