RESOLUTION APPROVING FINANCIAL SUPPORT AS A SPONSOR FOR THE 2020
SYMPOSIUM ON BUILDING INCLUSIVE ORGANIZATIONS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,cities across the country continue to see and be impacted by incidents of racism,
vandalism, and violence against humanity, in particular to persons from various ethnic groups and
religious sects; that Ames/Story County has not been immune from these types of issues or
situations; and,
WHEREAS,our community has been fortunate to have peaceful demonstrations occur rather
than violent riots; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Ames,the Ames Human Relations Commission(AHRC),the Ames
Chamber of Commerce,and the Iowa State University of Diversity and Inclusion desire to continue
to partner to host the third"Symposium on Building Inclusive Organizations"event to educate,raise
awareness,and provide tools and resources for the leaders and organizations in the community;and,
WHEREAS,the Mayor and the City Council received a letter from Dan Culhane,President
& CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce, seeking the City's and Ames Human Relations
Commission's support to host a 2019"Symposium on Building Inclusive Organizations"event;and,
WHEREAS, this year's event will be held virtually via Zoom over two half days on
November 12, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and November 13, from 8:00 a.m. to Noon; and,
WHEREAS, the preliminary budget for the event is approximately$16,500; and,
WHEREAS, each primary partner is asked to contribute$2,500 towards the cost of hosting
the event,which will help cover speaker fees,virtual events coordination,event sponsor recognition,
and marketing and promotion; and,
WHEREAS,a general attendance registration fee in the amount of$45 will be required along
with the opportunity for other sponsorship levels at$1,000 and$500; and,
WHEREAS, the City's $2,500 contribution will include 15 tickets for each contributing
organization; and,
WHEREAS, the $2,500 contribution could be divided between the Council Contingency
($1,500) and the Ames Human Relations Commission ($1,000).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the allocation of$2,500 in support of the Symposium on Building Inclusive Organizations event,
of which $1,500 will come from the Council Contingency Fund and $1,000 from the Human
Relation Commission's budget, is hereby approved.
