HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Setting the Date of Public Hearing for the Proposed Changes to the East University Impacted Urban Revitalization Area and Plan RESOLUTION NO. 20-538 RESOLUTION SETTING THE DATE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE EAST UNIVERSITY IMPACTED URBAN REVITALIZATION AREA AND PLAN FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, on August 21, 2020, the Council received an overview of the Ames Urban Revitalization Program and directed a change to the boundary of the East University Impacted Urban Revitalization Area in order to rectify an error that was recently discovered; and, WHEREAS, the property at 313 Lynn Avenue was approved for tax abatement in 2018, but is not located within the boundaries of the East University Urban Revitalization Area; and, WHEREAS,the City Council directed staff to modify the boundaries to include the single lot of 313 Lynn Avenue; and, WHEREAS,in addition to the discussion of the boundaries of the URA,on September 22,2020, the City Council received additional details regarding potential projects that could be impacted by changes to eligibility criteria within the East University Impacted Urban Revitalization Area; and, WHEREAS, City Council directed staff to prepare changes to eligibility criteria for both new construction of Greek houses and to create a sunset date for the URA for all Greek houses; and, WHEREAS,amendments to the Plan will include setting an expiration date of April 1,2024,for the entire URA and to limit the eligibility of new construction to those project approved for demolition prior to January 1, 2021; and, WHEREAS, setting a public hearing date is the first step in moving these items forward for formal consideration and noticing. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the date of public hearing for the proposed changes to the East University Impacted Area Urban Revitalization Area and Plan is set for November 24, 2020, is hereby approved.
