Dakota Avenue) RESOLUTION NO. 20-461 RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT FOR 2019/20 MULTI-MODAL ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS (MORTENSEN ROAD,WEST OF SOUTH DAKOTA AVENUE) FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,multi-modal transportation refers to the various modes used by Ames residents to travel the transport system; and, WHEREAS, this program is aimed at improving the roadway to create a safer interaction between modes using alternatives such as improved crossing visibility at intersections, bike detection, and on-street facilities (e.g.,bike lanes, sharrows); and, WHEREAS,bike lanes consist of a portion of the roadway designated by striping, signing, and pavement markings for the preferential or exclusive use of bicyclists; and, WHEREAS,sharrows are markings used in travel lanes that are shared by bicycles and motor vehicles,and this technique is used when a travel lane is too narrow to provide a standard width bike lane; and, WHEREAS, bike detection improvements include retrofitting signalized intersections to radar detection to facilitate the movement of bicycles; and, WHEREAS,this project will install new accessible ramps at the intersections of Mortensen Road and Miller Avenue and Mortensen Road and Poe Avenue; and, WHEREAS,the Mortensen Road and Miller Avenue intersection was originally built to serve as a CyRide turnaround before being converted into a standard intersection once a new CyRide turnaround was constructed farther west, and removal of the old CyRide turnaround at Miller Avenue and construction of standard intersection radii will also be included in this project; and, WHEREAS, staff developed plans for this project with an estimated cost of$65,569,which allowed for the solicitation of formal quotes per the City of Ames Purchasing Policies&Procedures, and on July 29, 2020, quotes were received for this project; and, WHEREAS,the revenues include$80,000 from the 2019/20 Multi-Modal Improvements and $30,000 from the 2020/21 Pavement Restoration; the total expenses for Engineering & Administration and Construction total $80,495 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that contract for the 2019/20 Multi-Modal Roadway Improvements(Mortensen Road,west of South Dakota Avenue)awarded to Con-Struct,Inc.,of Ames,Iowa,in the amount of$65,495.95,is hereby approved.
