Home My WebLink About~Master - Approving Waiver of Parking Meter Fees for Three Designated Spots on Douglas Avenue in front of the Library from May 19 ,2020 to July 1, 2020 RESOLUTION NO. 20-306 RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF PARKING METER FEES FOR THREE DESIGNATED SPOTS ON DOUGLAS AVENUE IN FRONT OF THE LIBRARY FROM MAY 19, 2020, TO JULY 1, 2020, FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, City buildings and facilities,including the Library, closed on March 17,2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and, WHEREAS, on May 19, 2020,the Library initiated the first step in re-opening by offering curbside pick-up service for books and other materials that have been held since the closure; and, WHEREAS, customers reserve a pick-up time and Library staff has the materials bagged, tagged, and placed on a table for the customer to pick up; and, WHEREAS,in order to safely facilitate the pick-up,the Library requested to designate three parking spots on Douglas Avenue in front of the Library as temporary parking; and, WHEREAS,Municipal Code Section 18.5(5)authorizes the City Manager to designate any parking spaces adjacent to City buildings as "visitor" spaces; and, WHEREAS,the request was granted,and signage was made to designate the three spots for curbside pick-up beginning May 19, 2020; and, WHEREAS, City Council is being asked to retroactively approve the waiving of parking meter fees during the time in which the Library is offering curbside pick-up service; and, WHEREAS,the timeframe the City Manager authorized the designation of the three parking spots is May 19,2020 through July 1,2020,Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, as the requests for new holds increases,the pick-up times may be expanded to include evening hours; and, WHEREAS, the request calculates to a $238 loss to the parking meter fund. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the waiver of parking meter fees for the three designated spots on Douglas Avenue in front of the Library from May 19, 2020 through July 1, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday, is hereby approved.
