HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Temporary Waiver of the Ames Municipal Code Section 26A.3(1)(b) requirements for one year to allow Student Government President to Appoint a Student Government Senator to the Ames Transit Board of Trustees RESOLUTION NO. 20-228 RESOLUTION APPROVING A TEMPORARY WAIVER OF THE AMES MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 26A.3(1)(b) REQUIREMENTS FOR ONE YEAR TO ALLOW THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT PRESIDENT TO APPOINT A STUDENT GOVERNMENT SENATOR TO THE AMES TRANSIT BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,the Ames Transit Agency,commonly known as CyRide,has a Board of Trustees made up of representatives of the City of Ames, Iowa State University (ISU), and the Iowa State University Student Government(SG); and, WHEREAS, under the Ames Municipal Code Section 26A.3(1)(d), the President of the Government Student Body appoints one Trustee who is not a GSB Senator, and under Ames Municipal Code Section 26A.3(1)(b),the full GSB chooses a GSB Senator to serve as a Trustee;and, WHEREAS, the terms of office begin on May 15 of each year, per Ames Municipal Code Section 26A.3(2); and, WHEREAS, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iowa State University has ceased holding in-person classes for the Spring semester; therefore, the GSB cannot make its Trustee appointment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that Section 26A.3(1)(b)is temporarily suspended for the year 2020 only,to allow the President of the ISU Government of the Student Body,instead of the GSB as a whole,to make the appointment of a GSB Senator to serve as a Transit Board Trustee for the one-year term beginning May 15,2020 is hereby approved.
