RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ACCESSION OF
THREE BLACK ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL WORKS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, on April 1, 2020, the Public Art Commission (PAC) approved a
recommendation to acquire three works of art that were exhibited at the Black Arts and Music
Festival (BAMF), which was hosted at the Ames Public Library in February 2020; and,
WHEREAS, the total acquisition cost of the three pieces is $1,796; and,
WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission has sufficient funds in its FY 2019/20 budget to
acquire the art and once acquired,these works of art will be incorporated into the City's collection
and displayed either in City Hall or other City facilities as determined by the PAC; and,
WHEREAS, the"We Will Overcome" accession by Jamila Johnson is to be purchased for
$350 and is being recommended to be added to the City of Ames art collection; and,
WHEREAS, the second accession is "Goodnight Moon"by Jamila Johnson in the amount
of$150 and will be added to the City of Ames art collection; and,
WHEREAS, the third artwork to be acquired is "Ladies of Summer"by Julian Jones in the
amount of$1,296 and will be added to the City of Ames art collection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the accession of three Black Arts and Music Festival works as recommended by the Public Arts
Commission is hereby approved.
