RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF FEE FOR BLANKET VENDING LICENSE
FOR ISU RESEARCH PARK CIRCUIT RACE FOR AMES GRAND PRIX
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Velo organization has proposed hosting its fourth Ames Grand Prix
bicycle races on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14; and,
WHEREAS,the City Council denied the approval for the June dates; however, approved the
ulterior dates of Saturday,August 22, and Sunday, August 23; and,
WHEREAS,the event consists of timed races of 10 to 50 riders per race along a short circuit,
and it is anticipated that riders will reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour on the course; and,
WHEREAS,an estimated 500 individuals are anticipated to attend the two days of racing;and,
WHEREAS, on Sunday,August 23,the races will take place from 8:00 a.m. until about 5:00
p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested the following street closures
from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: University Boulevard from Ames Fitness Center south parking lot to
Collaboration Place, Collaboration Place, and Plaza Loop; and,
WHEREAS, organizers have requested a Blanket Vending License for the closed area and
waiver of the $50 fee.
WHEREAS, a letter of support from the ISU Research Park has been obtained for this event.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
waiver of the Blanket Vending License fee of$50 for the Ames Grand Prix ISU Research Park Circuit
Race on Sunday, August 23, 2020, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 28`h day of April, 2020.
