HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Use of Savings from Completed Brookside Park Path Lighting Project and Maintenance Building Electrical Update, and Use of Funds from teh Park Development Fund RESOLUTION NO. 19-567 RESOLUTION APPROVING USE OF SAVINGS FROM COMPLETED BROOKSIDE PARK PATH LIGHTING PROJECT AND MAINTENANCE BUILDING ELECTRICAL UPDATE, AND USE OF FUNDS FROM THE PARK DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,this project is to renovate the Brookside Park Restroom which was damaged during a 2018 fire; and, WHEREAS, ISG of Des Moines, Iowa,was hired to develop plans and specifications,prepare a cost estimate, and provide project management for this project; and, WHEREAS,at the City Council meeting on October 8,2019,the City Council accepted the report of bids,but did not award a contract at that time and the Council directed staff to determine any possible reasons for bids higher than the architect's estimate and come back with possible funding options; and, WHEREAS,if the Council chooses to award the contract to the low bidder Henkel Construction Company there would be a shortfall of$95,212; and, WHEREAS, staff was able to identify savings from two completed project,Brookside Park Path Lighting and Maintenance Building Electrical Update,totaling $13,407; and, WHEREAS, the use of those two completed project savings would still leave an amount of $81,805 that is still needed to complete the project; and, WHEREAS,using funds from the Park Development Fund is an option;however,these funds have traditionally been earmarked for the purchase of park land and/or new park features, not to maintain or renovate existing structures;however,there is no legal impediment to uses of these funds for this project. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the use of$6,525 savings from the completed Brookside Park Path Lighting Project, $6,882 in savings from the completed Maintenance Building Electrical Update, and up to $81,805 from the Park Development Fund be transferred to the Brookside Park Restroom Renovation Project is hereby approved.
