HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Change Order for Engineering Services for the Water Treatmetn Control Facility Methane Engine Generator Replacement Project RESOLUTION NO. 19-412 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE ORDER FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR THE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL FACILITY METHANE ENGINE GENERATOR REPLACEMENT PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS,in 2017,an evaluation of the digesters and the high strength waste receiving system at the Water Pollution Control Facility was performed and City Council adopted the recommendation of replacing one of the methane engine generators with a dual fuel boiler, primarily to provide a backup heating system for the digesters,but also because of a potential decrease in maintenance costs; and, WHEREAS, the installation of a new boiler also requires piping and controls upgrades; and, WHEREAS, on October 9, 2018, City Council awarded a contract for engineering services to Strand Associates, Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin, for design of the Water Pollution Control Facility Methane Engine Generator Replacement Project in an amount not to exceed $165,000; and, WHEREAS, the original contract with Strand Associates, Inc. included solely design phase services with the intent to revisit the need for bidding and construction services after the design had been completed; and, WHEREAS,the design phase of the project is nearing completion and staff is now preparing for the construction phase; and, WHEREAS,Strand has prepared an amendment to the original Engineering Services Agreement with the revised scope now including the bidding and construction services ($79,200) and additional services as directed by the W&PC department if necessary ($10,000), for a total amount not to exceed $89,200. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Change Order with Strand Associates,Inc., of Madison,Wisconsin, for engineering services for the Water Pollution Control Facility Methane Engine Generator Replacement Project in the amount not to exceed$89,200 is hereby approved.
