RESOLUTION NO. 19-371
RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION OF FIVE ACRES OF LAND ON WOODLAND
STREET FROM THE AMES COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the Ames Community School District(ACSD)has agreed to transfer five acres of
the former Edwards school property to the City of Ames for use as a neighborhood park; and,
WHEREAS, during the 2018/19 budget hearings, the City Council committed $80,000 in the
2019/20 Capital Improvements Plan for developing this former school site as a neighborhood park;and,
WHEREAS, the City Council, in May 2017, agreed to accept a portion of the Old Edwards
School site at a future date for use as a City park contingent on three conditions being met; and,
WHEREAS, City staff has confirmed that all three conditions have been met in order for the
Council to accept the transfer to City ownership; and,
WHEREAS, all legal documents have now been finalized with ACSD for the transfer of the
property, and the ACSD School Board approved the transfer of this property at its July 8, 2019,
meeting; and,
WHEREAS,neighborhood residents have been active supporters of the transfer of a portion of
the Old Edwards School property to the City and have raised over$150,000 for demolition of the Old
Edwards School.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the donation of five acres of land on Woodland Street from the Ames Community School District to the
City of Ames for the purpose of developing a neighborhood park at that location is hereby accepted.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of July, 2019.
