RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS AND
ENFORCEMENT FOR
MIDNIGHT MADNESS ROAD RACE EVENTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the annual Midnight Madness races will be held in the downtown area on Saturday,July 13,
2019,and the event includes 5k, 10k,and kid runs,followed by a beer garden and activities near City Hall;and,
WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the following street and parking lot closures, including the
suspension of parking regulations and enforcement, on Saturday,July 13, from 6 p.m.to 11 p.m.for the Midnight
Madness races:5th Street from Pearle Avenue to Douglas Avenue;Douglas Avenue from 5th Street to 10'h Street;
1 oth Street from Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue;Clark Avenue from 10`h Street to Main Street;Main Street from
Burnett Avenue to Northwestern Avenue;Northwestern Avenue from Main Street to 9`h Street; 91h Street from
Northwestern to Brookridge Avenue;Ridgewood Avenue from Brookridge Avenue to 6`h Street; and 6' Street
from Ridgewood Avenue to Northwestern Avenue;and,
WHEREAS, organizers are further requesting the closure of the following streets for the Midnight
Madness event,but these streets are not part of the race route:Burnett and Kellogg Avenues from 5`h Street to 10`h
Street;6'Street,7"'Street,8`h Street,and 9`h Street from Clark Avenue to Douglas Avenue;and,Park Way;and,
WHEREAS,it is also requested that the following be closed for post-race activities from 6 p.m.on July
13,to 1 a.m. on July 14: Clark Avenue from 5t' Street to 6' Street; and,East City Hall Parking Lot N; and,
WHEREAS,the Public Works Traffic Division will provide barricades and traffic cones to facilitate this
event;and,
WHEREAS,this proposed route involves the crossing of the Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR)north-south
single-track rail line at 9'Street;Midnight Madness organizers will confer with UPRR in the days prior to race
day to ensure the race schedule will not conflict with train traffic, and adjustments will be made to avoid train
traffic if necessary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
suspension ofparking regulations and enforcement on the aforementioned streets and parking lots for the Midnight
Madness Road Race events on July 13-14,2019,are hereby approved.
