RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF 13 METERED PARKING SPACES ON
BURNETT AND SIX METERED PARKING SPACES ON FIFTH STREET
FOR DOCK DOG JUMPING COMPETITION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, Model Farm Creative Services Agency is proposing to host its third annual Dog
Dock Jumping Competition July 4-6,2019;the event involves setting up a 40'dock leading to a 20'x 40'
above-ground pool of water; and,
WHEREAS, dogs compete in jumping for distance,vertical leap,retrieving,and Iron Dog;and,
WHEREAS, the event is proposed to take place on Burnett Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets;
and,
WHEREAS, this event will also incorporate food vendors into the activities; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested the closure of Burnett Avenue
between 5th and 6th Streets from Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6,
2019, including the closure of 13 metered parking spaces on Burnett Avenue and six metered parking
spaces on 5th Street to provide parking for First National Bank employees who will be displaced by the
event; and,
WHEREAS, organizers have requested that the parking meter fees for the 13 metered parking
spaces on Burnett and six metered parking spaces on 5th Street be waived,a loss of$90.00 to the Parking
Fund; and,
WHEREAS, the event has been approved by the board of the Ames Main Street, which has
provided a letter of support.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the closure of 13 metered parking spaces on Burnett Avenue and six metered parking spaces on 5th Street,
for the Dog Dock Jumping Competition on July 4-6, 2019, are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 28th day of May, 2019.
