RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR
POWER PLANT MOTOR REPAIR CONTRACT,
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City's Power Plant has two natural gas-fired,high-pressure steam turbine electric
generating units which are referred to as Units No. 7 and 8, and these units require regular professional
maintenance and repair; and,
WHEREAS,this work consists of regularly planned repairs and services during scheduled outages,
as well as emergency service,and the repair of these generating units require professional trade workers such
as boiler makers, electricians/control technicians, steam/pipe fitters, and millwrights,to list a few; and,
WHEREAS, due to these operational conditions, numerous motors are necessary to safely and
reliably operate the Power Plant, and all of this equipment must be professionally maintained, serviced,
adjusted,repaired, and rebuilt; and,
WHEREAS, on June 12, 2018, City Council awarded a contract to Electrical Engineering and
Equipment Company,Windsor Heights,Iowa,for the Motor Repair Contract for the City's Power Plant for
the period from July 1,2018 through June 30,2019, in an amount to exceed$90,000; and,
WHEREAS, the contract includes a provision that would allow the City to renew the contract for
up to four additional one-year terms; and,
WHEREAS, the bid from Electrical Engineering and Equipment Company included increases of
1.5%per year for labor rates and 1%per year for travel and subsistence,and the materials may be provided
by the contractor as contractor's cost plus 20%; and,
WHEREAS, the approved FY2019/20 Power Plant operating budget includes $20,000 for this
contract.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
contract renewal with Electrical Engineering and Equipment Company of Windsor Heights, Iowa, for the
Motor Repair Contract for the Power Plant for hourly rates and unit prices bin,in an amount not to exceed
$20,000 is hereby approved, for the period of July 1,2019 through June 30,2020.
