RESOLUTION APPROVING EXTENSION OF THE MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING WITH ST.AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FOR
ANALYSIS OF RACIAL PROPORTIONALITY OF TRAFFIC STOP DATA
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the City has a Memorandum of Understanding with St.Ambrose University to
analyze the racial proportionality of police traffic stops that was established on October 4,2017 and
had an anticipated end date of March 31, 2019; and,
WHEREAS,St.Ambrose University has collected baseline data and is actively working with
the Police Department to extract local data from police records and create a file suitable for analysis;
and,
WHEREAS, the process of extracting this file and creating the records for this analysis is
more complex than was originally anticipated and to allow sufficient time to complete the data
conversion,data analysis, and final report of the analysis,the completion date for this project must
be extended; and,
WHEREAS, an Addendum to extend the final deadline to December 31, 2019, is being
recommended in the Memorandum of Understanding with St. Ambrose University.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding with St. Ambrose University for the
analysis of police traffic stops until December 31, 2019, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 23rd day of April, 2019.
