RESOLUTION APPROVING THE WATER QUALITY INITIATIVE URBAN
CONSERVATION DEMONSTRATION PROJECT FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH
IOWA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND LAND STEWARDSHIP FOR THE
CAMPUSTOWN PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS (WELCH AVENUE)PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the City of Ames has been awarded a grant in the amount of$100,000 through
a competitive application process administered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land
Stewardship (IDALS); and,
WHEREAS, the agreement is through the Water Quality Initiative Urban Conservation
Demonstration Project Program; and,
WHEREAS,the Program was established in order to assess and reduce nutrients in the state's
watersheds, including sub-watersheds and regional watersheds, with the goal of establishing and
administering projects to reduce nutrients in surface waters from non-point sources in a scientific,
reasonable, and cost-effective manner; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Ames plans to incorporate stormwater quality BMPs (Bioretention
Cells/Tree Trenches with permeable pavers) to capture runoff draining to and from the sidewalks,
staying committed to support of, and leadership in, improving and protecting water quality; and,
WHEREAS,revenue for the project totals $1,750,000 from the following sources: $100,000
Road Use Tax,$1,000,000 GO Bonds,$425,000 Water Utility Funds,$125,000 Sewer Utility Funds,
and$100,000 in Electric Utility Funds and the budget reflects $260,000 for engineering/construction
administration and$1,490,000 for construction.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the Water Quality Initiative Urban Conservation Demonstration Projecting funding Agreement with
the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship for the Campustown Public Improvements
(Welch Avenue) in the amount of$100,000, is hereby approved.
