RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
AMES MAIN STREET FARMERS' MARKET
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Chamber of Commerce is planning to host the annual Main Street
Farmers' Market this summer,which will take place in the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street and on
Burnett Avenue from Main Street to the U.S. Bank drive-through; and,
WHEREAS, the Market will operate on Saturdays from May 4 through October 12 from
8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS,to facilitate the events,organizers have requested that the aforementioned streets
be closed from 5:00 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. on these Saturdays to allow for set-up and tear-down for each of
the Markets; and,
WHEREAS,organizers have further requested the use of Tom Evans Plaza between the hours
of 5:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for vendor booths and entertainment; and,
WHEREAS, as in previous years,this space would be used for entertainment and educational
activities for children and families;however,to prevent damaging the turf in the plaza,vendors will not
be permitted to use Tom Evans Plaza; and,
WHEREAS,the Main Street Farmers' Market has successfully attracted visitors to the Ames
Main Street District for the last several years,and it has become a signature event in Ames, enhancing
the local economy and providing a family-friendly activity that showcases the Ames community.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the requested street closures in the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street and on Burnett Avenue from Main
Street to the U.S. Bank drive-through and closure of Tom Evans Plaza for the Main Street Farmers'
Market on Saturdays from May 4, 2019, through October 12, 2019, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. are
hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 261h day of March, 2019.
