HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 2019 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition RESOLUTION NO. 19-100 RESOLUTION APPROVING 2019 AMES ANNUAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION SELECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the City's Public Art Commission (PAC) is committed to the creation of a visual and aesthetic environment that integrates art into the lives of Ames citizens; and, WHEREAS,the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition(AAOSE)will continue with its 23'annual Downtown exhibition in 2019; and, WHEREAS,a related program is the Neighborhood Sculpture Program,which permanently selects and places sculptures from the Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in and around Ames at no cost to applying neighborhoods; and, WHEREAS, entries were evaluated by a jury of Ames residents, who previewed entry materials,and recommended nine sculptures to be displayed in the Main Street Cultural District over the upcoming year; and, WHEREAS, these recommendations were then reviewed by the City's Risk Manager to ensure these sculptures can be safely displayed; and, WHEREAS, specific art sculptures selected for display are as follows: 1. Text Pods by V. Skip Willits 2. The Catch by Anna Modeland 3. Loop by Mike Sneller 4. Dance#nowaste by Gail Chavenelle 5. Birds of a Feather by Judd Nelson 6. Spikey Smooth by Mike Sneller 7. When Love &Hate Collide by Zach Bowman 8. Slices of Heaven by Craig Berube-Gray 9. Monolith by Timothy Jorgenson WHEREAS, installation of the exhibits will take place during early May after consultation with businesses and organizations near the likely sites and further risk analysis by City staff NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the 2018 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Selections are hereby approved.
