RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ALLOCATION OF
FUNDS TO DEVELOP PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE
DONOR/SENSORY PLAZA
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in October 2016,the Parks and Recreation Commission recommended and City
Council approved Inis Grove Park as the location for a Miracle League Field and All Inclusive
Playground; and,
WHEREAS, Council allocated $50,000 from the Park Development Fund to design these
amenities; and,
WHEREAS, Council approved in 2017 minimum dollar amounts for the naming of the
Miracle League Field ($150,000) and Inclusive Playground ($200,000) giving the Miracle Park
Steering Committee direction; and,
WHEREAS, Snyder & Associates was selected to design the Miracle Park, and plans and
specifications were completed in 2017 and presented to the City's Development Review Committee
for approval; and,
WHEREAS, the Miracle Park Steering Committee, comprised of area professionals and
residents,kicked off a funding campaign in September 2017 raising over$1.5 million,which leaves
approximately$200,000 yet to be raised; and,
WHEREAS, the Ames Foundation had agreed to serve as the fiscal agent for this project,
assist with the fundraising, and oversee construction, and an agreement between the City and the
Foundation was approved by Council in 2018; and,
WHEREAS, Harold Pike Construction has been secured by the Foundation to serve as the
General Contractor for this project and is anticipating construction to being in May 2019 and be
complete in October 2019; and,
WHEREAS,construction documents for the Donor/Sensory Plaza need to be completed and
Snyder&Associates has quoted$12,500 to complete construction documents; and,
WHEREAS, the $12,500 needed to complete the construction documents is available from
the following sources:
a. Ada Hayden Heritage Park Parking Lot(project savings) $5,467
b. Greenbriar Park Improvements (project savings) $1,173
C. Miracle Field& Playground Design (project savings) $1,000
d. Park Development Fund Balance $4,860
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the reallocation of$7,640 in funds from the completed CIP projects,as well as$4,860 from the
Park Development Fund is hereby approved.
