HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Closure of Metered Parking Spaces and Suspension of Parking Regulations for "Over the Edge" Event RESOLUTION NO. 18-542 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF METERED PARKING SPACES AND SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS FOR "OVER THE EDGE" EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club of Story County is planning to host an event called, "Over the Edge" at The Edge Building located at 2311 Chamberlain Street on Friday, October 12, 2018; and, WHEREAS,"Over the Edge"is a rappelling fundraiser that is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. and last until 5:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, the event will include music, food trucks, and games; and, WHEREAS,the event is expected to have approximately 300 participants,60 volunteers and staff, and others who come to watch the rappelling; and, WHEREAS,the applicant has requested the use of 33 metered parking spaces in Municipal Parking Lot Z for residents of the Edge apartment building who will be displaced from their usual parking lot for the evnet, and the suspension of parking regulations within the closed area; and, WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Club have requested to have the fees for the 33 affected metered stalls waived, which would be a $165 loss to the Parking Fund; and, WHEREAS, the "Over the Edge" special event is expected to be an exciting and positive fund-raising activity for the Ames community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the closure of 33 metered parking spaces and the suspension of parking regulations and waiver of fees within the closed area for the"Over the Edge"event on Friday, October 12, 2018,is hereby approved.
