RESOLUTION APPROVING I-35 SIGNAGE PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the City received a letter from The Ames Foundation to support the construction
of entryway signage along the northbound I-35 corridor into Ames; and,
WHEREAS, City Council has allocated $20,000 as requested to support the $40,000 total
sign project; and,
WHEREAS, staff has met with The Ames Foundation to discuss project details and prepare
an agreement authorizing the funds to be spent; and,
WHEREAS, the scope outlined in the Agreement indicates the funds may be used to
purchase materials, supplies and services to design and construct the sign and its adjacent
landscaping; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Ames will be responsible for the landscaping, which will require
minimal maintenance, and the lighting for the sign will be lit by solar.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Agreement with The Ames Foundation for the construction of entryway signage along the
northbound I-35 corridor is hereby approved with the following stipulations:
1. Approve the proposed funding agreement with the Ames Foundation in the amount of
$20,000.
2. Approve the location of the signage to be located on the east side of I-35 just south of
260t'Street on property owned by the City of Ames
3. The City will be responsible for the maintenance,repair, or reconstruction of the sign
in the future.
4. The design incorporates a reference to Iowa State University and includes elements
similar in style to the ISU entryway signs along University Boulevard, approval has
been received from Iowa State University to use their name.
5. The City of Ames will be responsible for the landscaping,which will require minimal
maintenance and the lighting for the sign will be lit by solar.
