HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street Closures for Midnight Madness 2018 RESOLUTION NO. 18-372 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES AND SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS AND ENFORCEMENT FOR MIDNIGHT MADNESS ROAD RACE EVENTS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the annual Midnight Madness races will be held in the downtown area on Saturday,July 14, 2018, and the event includes 5k, 1 Ok, and kid runs, followed by a beer garden and activities near City Hall; and, WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the following street and parking lot closures, including the suspension of parking regulations and enforcement, on Saturday, July 14, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the Midnight Madness races:5th Street from Pearle Avenue to Douglas Avenue;Douglas Avenue from 5th Street to loth Street; l Oth Street from Douglas Avenue to Clark Avenue; Clark Avenue from l Oth Street to Main Street;Main Street from Burnett Avenue to Northwestern Avenue;Northwestern Avenue from Main Street to 9t1i Street; 9t1i Street from Northwestern to Brookridge Avenue; Ridgewood Avenue from Brookridge Avenue to 61h Street; and 6th Street from Ridgewood Avenue to Northwestern Avenue; and, WHEREAS,organizers are further requesting the closure of the following streets for the Midnight Madness event,but these streets are not part of the race route:Burnett and Kellogg Avenues from 5th Street to 1 Oth Street;6th Street,71h Street,8th Street,and 9th Street from Clark Avenue to Douglas Avenue;and,Park Way; and, WHEREAS,it is also requested that the following be closed for post-race activities from 6 p.m. on July 14,to 1 a.m. on July 15: Clark Avenue from 51h Street to 6th Street; and,East City Hall Parking Lot N; and, WHEREAS,the Public Works Traffic Division will provide barricades and traffic cones to facilitate this event; and, WHEREAS,this proposed route involves the crossing of the Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR)north- south single-track rail line at 9th Street; Midnight Madness organizers will confer with UPRR in the days prior to race day to ensure the race schedule will not conflict with train traffic,and adjustments will be made to avoid train traffic if necessary. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the aforementioned street closures and suspension of parking regulations and enforcement for the Midnight Madness Road Race events on July 14-15, 2018, are hereby approved.
