HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Submission of State of Iowa Recreational Trail Grant Application for Grand Avenue Extension Project RESOLUTION NO. 18-366 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUBMISSION OF STATE OF IOWA RECREATIONAL TRAIL GRANT APPLICATION FOR GRAND AVENUE EXTENSION PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, in connection with the Grand Avenue Extension project, Public Works staff has prepared a Project Application for grant funding under the Iowa State Recreational Trails(SRT)Program; and, WHEREAS,the grant funding requested would cover costs associated with a separate shared-use path along S. Grand Avenue and S. 5"' Street plus the portion for the path crossing on a new primary Squaw Creek bridge and new overflow bridge that will be integral with the S. Grand Avenue roadway project; and, WHEREAS, if approved, the grant funds would cover approximately 20% of the construction costs ($368,000) of paving the trail and constructing the bridges; and, WHEREAS, as part of the Application, Iowa Department of Transportation officials request a Resolution from the authority applying for the funding acknowledging that it will assume responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the Project; and, WHEREAS, in particular,the authority's Resolution must provide written assurance that it will adequately maintain the trail for its intended use and maintain the total trail used to justify the project in public use for a minimum of 20 years following project completion; and, WHEREAS, the Grand Avenue Extension project continues to be included in the Capital Improvements Plan with funding identified since FY 2013/14 and continuing through 2018/19; and, WHEREAS,construction of the Grand Avenue Extension project is anticipated to commence in FY 2018/19 with estimated completion in 2020. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that submission of the State of Iowa Recreational Trail Project Application in the amount of$368,000,with assurance that any funded improvements will be adequately maintained for a minimum of 20 years, is hereby approved.
