RESOLUTION APPROVING ADDENDUM TO
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE CITY REGARDING
LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES AT
UNIVERSITY-LEASED RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in 2013,the City of Ames and Iowa State University(ISU)signed an Agreement
to have ISU Police provide law enforcement services to properties leased by Iowa State University
and operated by the Department of Residence; and,
WHEREAS, due to the growing enrollment, those leases were initiated to expand the base
of University-operated housing while providing a student residence experienced that is substantially
similar to students living in more traditional residence halls; and,
WHEREAS,housing units were leased on Stanton Avenue,Maricopa Drive,Walton Drive,
Steinbeck Street, Dickinson Avenue, Twain Circle, and Mayfield Drive; and,
WHEREAS, the only units ISU intends to lease for the 2018-19 academic year are located
at 119 Stanton Avenue, with all others being returned to private management on August 1, 2018;
and,
WHEREAS, all other units will be returned to the jurisdiction of the Ames Police, and an
Addendum to the original Memorandum of Understanding has been prepared to reflect that change.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding between Iowa State University and the
City of Ames regarding the provision of law enforcement services to University-leased residential
housing property in Ames is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of May, 2018.
