HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Mucky Duck RAGBRAI Event - Suspension of Parking Regulations RESOLUTION NO. 18-257 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS FOR THE MUCKY DUCK RAGBRAI EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Mucky Duck Pub plans to host an event in the afternoon and evening of July 24,and morning of July 25,2018,during the time RAGBRAI riders will be in the community; and, WHEREAS, the event will include an outdoor alcohol service area in the establishment's parking lot with food and music; and, WHEREAS, they are requesting to suspend parking regulations from 8:00 a.m. July 24 through 11:00 a.m. July 25 to allow parking along the south side of the 100 and 200 blocks of Crystal Street for event parking; and, WHEREAS,the Police Department has reviewed the proposed security plan,and both Police and Fire staff have reviewed the emergency action plan prepared by the applicant; and, WHEREAS,the ACVB,as the local coordinating entity for the City's RAGBRAI activities, is aware of the proposed event, participated in the event review process, and has not raised any objections to the event; and, WHEREAS,the applicant for this event already has the appropriate licensing for the event, and therefore, is not in conflict with the City's anticipated temporary RAGBRAI ordinance limiting new outdoor service areas; and, WHEREAS, additionally,the applicant has developed a thorough safety and security plan, which will help mitigate potential risks during the hours of operation; and, WHEREAS,the applicant has also worked with the local RAGBRAI organizing committee (represented by ACVB staff)to ensure it is compatible with other planned RAGBRAI activities;and, WHEREAS, the requester also has a history of hosting similar activities in the proposed space, and meeting the safety expectations of the Police Department in doing so. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request to suspend parking regulations from 8:00 a.m. July 24 through 11:00 a.m. July 25 to allow parking along the south side of the 100 and 200 blocks of Crystal Street for event parking during the Mucky Duck RAGBRAI event is hereby approved.
