RESOLUTION APPROVING 2018 AMES ANNUAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE
EXHIBITION SELECTIONS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,The City's Public Art Commission(PAC)is committed to the creation of a visual and
aesthetic environment that integrates art into the lives of Ames citizens; and
WHEREAS,The Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition(AROSE)will continue with its 22"d
annual downtown exhibition in 2018; and
WHEREAS,a related programis the Neighborhood Sculpture Program,whichpermanentlyselects
and places sculptures from the Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in and around Ames at no cost to
applying neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, of forty-six entries were submitted and evaluated by a jury of Aires residents,
composed of a mixture ofartists and business owners in Ames,eight sculptures were selected as their top
choices to be displayed in the Main Street Cultural District over the upcoming year; and
WHEREAS, these recommendations were then reviewed by the City's Risk Manager to ensure
these sculptures can be safely displayed; and
WHEREAS, included are sculptures originally recommended as alternates, but which have
replaced other selections that were sold or eluninated for safety reasons; and
WHEREAS, specific art sculptures selected are as follows:
l. Time Passes by David Zahn
2. Parent and Child by Albert Rhea
3. Stairway to Nowhere?By Zach Bowman
4. Blue Heron with Sunfish by Judd Nelson
5. Totem of Spring by Hilde Debruyne
6. Twisted Sister by Craig Snyder
7. Glow from Within by Tim Adams
8. No Strings Attached by Paul Bobrowitz
WHEREAS, rotation and installation of the exhibit will take place during early May, after
consultation with businesses and organizations near the likely sites and further risk analysis by City stat
and
WHEREAS, funding for the coming year's AAOSE exhibition was included in the City CounciTs
adopted 2017/18 budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City of Ames, Iowa, that
the 2018 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Selections are hereby approved.
