RESOLUTION APPROVING PURCHASE OF ART SCULPTURE
FOR NEIGHBORHOOD ART PROGRAM
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, included in the Public Art Commssion's 2017/18 adjusted budget is a $26,500
budget allocation for the acquisition of sculptures under the Neighborhood Art program ($13,500
budgeted and $13,000 carry over from FYI 7); and,
WHEREAS, this program provides for sculptures from the previous year's Ames Annual
Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition (AAOSE) to be purchased and placed in neighborhoods around the
City; and,
WHEREAS, including the four sculptures approved by Council on March 6, 2018, $20,477
has been spent from this account, leaving an available balance of$6,023; and,
WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission (PAC) is recommending that the Council authorize
the purchase of an additional sculpture, `Balance,"which was on display outside the northeast corner
of the Ames Public Library; and,
WHEREAS, the purchase price of the steel sculpture is $8,500, and it is reconunended that
the sculpture continue to be displayed at the Library location until such time that the Library Board
of the Public Art Commssion recommend relocation, and,
WHEREAS, since the Neighborhood Art account within the Public Art Commission's budget
could not cover the entire purchase price for `Balance," the Commission has reallocated funding
from several of its smaller operating accounts to cover the full price.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the recommendation of the Public Art Commission to purchase the `Balance" sculpture by artist
Steve Olszewski in the amount of$8,500 for the Neighborhood Art Program is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 1 Oth day of April, 2018.
