RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS FOR
GREEK WEEK OLYMPICS 2018
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Greek Week Committee has submitted plans to host the Greek Week
Olympics on Saturday, April 7, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, organizers have requested closure of the following streets
from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on April 7, as well as suspension of parking regulations: Sunset Drive;
Ash Avenue from Gable Lane to Knapp Street; Gray Avenue from Gable Lane to Greeley Street;
Greeley Street; Pearson Avenue from Sunset to Greeley; and Lynn Avenue from Chamberlain to
Knapp Street; and,
WHEREAS, to clear these streets of parked vehicles prior to the corrnnencerrient of activities,
event organizers will post "No Parking" signs around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, until each street
has re-opened after the activities; and,
WHEREAS, several single-family homes are located along the closed streets; the organizers
will notify the affected residents about the closures by canvassing the area and distributing a
notification letter; and,
WHEREAS, Greek Week is an annual student-run event at Iowa State that highlights the
fraternities and sororities and their contributions to student life; and,
WHEREAS, it is highly dependent upon City approval of parking prohibitions so that it may
occur in a safe and smooth manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the request to suspend parking regulations on the aforementioned street for the Greek Week
Olympics 2018 on April 7, 2018, is hereby approved.
