RESOLUTION APPROVING 2017 RESOURCE RECOVERY ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, a calendar year report is prepared annually for the Resource Recovery System,
and based on this annual report, and in accordance with existing contracts, billings are prepared for
the participating comaxmities and Iowa State University, and,
WHEREAS, revenues from all sources totaled $3,916,920, total expenses were $4,545,420,
and this resulted in a net reduction of$628,500 for 2017; and,
WHEREAS, the revenues from recovered metals have dropped dramatically over the past
several years, primarily due to a reduction in the overall demand for scrap metal world-wide, and the
ferrous metals recycling market is still in flux, reflecting low pricing globally in 2017 and projected
for 2018; and,
WHEREAS, this has led to a loss in revenue of nearly $200,000 per year, as compared to the
2015/16 budget; and,
WHEREAS, due to this reduction in revenue, the per capita fee will return to $10.50; and,
WHEREAS, the tipping fee will remain at $55.00/ton, while the car line rates remain at $10
for cars/passenger vans and$25 for pickups/trailers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the 2017 Resource Recovery Annual Report is hereby approved, and staff is authorized to
distribute the report and to bill the participating conmiunities and Iowa State University.
