HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street and parking spaces closures for Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit event RESOLUTION NO. 18-030 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURES OF STREET AND METERED PARKING SPACES FOR SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE TRAVELING EXHIBIT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, The Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) is planning to host the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit Opening Night Reception on October 4, 2018; and, WHEREAS, the exhibit, titled "Hometown Teams," highlights the many ways sports have shaped com Rmities across America; and, WHEREAS, the reception will be held as a family-fhendly 'Tailgate" party, with food trucks, local marching bands, cheerleaders,bleachers, tailgating vehicles, and a mascot competition; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate this event, the MSCD is requesting closure of the 400 block of Douglas Avenue from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, organizers are further requesting the closure of 12 metered parking spaces in the 400 block of Douglas Avenue and 8 metered spaces in the 200 block of Main Street during this same time; and, WHEREAS, organizers plan to place signs in the affected area and distribute information to businesses affected by the street closure. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned street and metered parking spaces closures for the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit on October 4, 2018, is hereby approved.
