HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Waiver of parking meter fees for Ames High Homecoming Parade RESOLUTION NO. 17-559 RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF PARKING METER FEES AND PARKING ENFORCEMENT IN THE MAIN STREET CULTURAL DISTRICT FOR AMES HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Ames High School has requested to hold its Homecoming Parade on Monday, September 18, 2017; and, WHEREAS, due to the reconstruction of City Hall Lot M, parade entries will stage on Pearle Avenue, Main Street, and in Depot Lot TT; and, WHEREAS, the parade will start on Main Street west of Clark Avenue and proceed east past Douglas Avenue to the CBD Lot entrance; and, WHEREAS, the parade entries will disperse from the CBD Lot, and it will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last approximately 45 to 60 minutes; and, WHEREAS, to help facilitate this event, the Homecoming Committee has asked that the City Council approve the following closures from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.: 5th Street from Grand Avenue to Pearle Avenue; Pearle Avenue; Main Street from Pearle Avenue to Duff Avenue; Clark Avenue from north of the CBD lot exit to 51h Street; Burnett Avenue from Main Street to 5th Street; and, Kellogg Avenue from north of the CBD lot exit to Main Street; and, WHEREAS, organizers are also requesting that parking meter fees and parking enforcement be waived along the parade route from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, barricades will be placed on streets along this route for traffic control , and will be staffed by adult volunteers; and, WHEREAS, the Ames High Homecoming Parade is a long-standing Ames tradition in the Main Street Cultural District(MSCD)and has the support of the MSCD. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that waiver of parking meter fees and suspension of parking enforcement for the Ames High School Homecoming Parade on September 18, 2017, are hereby approved.
